Some thoughts on the 2009 Brier. Now I don't profess to be an expert on curling. Many years ago in my life as a sports broadcaster I did rock by rock coverage for both CKPG in Prince George and CKX in Brandon. But as I watch the Brier, it seems to me that the winning provinces send the same teams year after year while with Saskatchewan its always someone new.
Alberta sends Kevin Marten, Newfoundland has Brad Gushue, Manitoba a Stoughton, Ontario has a Howard and New Brunswick even found another Howard. How does Saskatchewan do this ? Is there a Saturday night meeting where they draw straws and the loser gets to go to the Brier. I heard one commentator say Saskatchewan is the toughest province to get out of and there is a mental letdown after you get to the Brier. Excuse me, but thats rubbish. If you get to the big show and you aren't ready thats your fault. If you aren't ready you could lose to Kevin Marten 11 - 3. Oh Saskatchewan did. Well there you go. Next year maybe Saskatchewan's fifth should be Dr. Phil
