Proudly Flying the Canadian Flag

When I first heard the debate about a college refusing to fly the Canadian flag, i immediately googled to find out where this college is. Must be in Quebec I thought and then was astonished to find out that it is Mount Royal College in Calgary,
Alberta that is refusing to fly the Canadian flag at their student union building.
Calgary, Alberta. How far will this political correctness go? Apparently the students feel the flag is exclusionary and
someone's feelings might be hurt by flying the Canadian flag.
Hurt someone's feelings ? What about the Canadian military brave men and women who fought and died so that flag could fly? The only reason these students can make a brain dead decision like this is because many died to give them that freedom. I hope Calgarians are as outraged by this as the rest of the country and demand that the Canadian flag flies.

I Did My Part !

About 11:00 pm last night, as part of Earth Awareness and Earth Hour, I turned off my television set, turned off the radio and
turned off all the lights. My part towards Earth Hour. Nah ! I was just going to bed.

Earth Hour

Can someone tell me what this actually achieved on Saturday night? You turn off your lights, your tv, your radio and
you sit in the dark for one hour. Now I understand the awareness part, but really, some of these environmentalists are going on like this has just saved the planet. There have been calls to the power companies to calculate how much we saved by
turning off the power for one hour. My question is how will you ever know ? At best it is a estimated guess.
You compare it to saturday night one week ago. Well what was saturday night one week ago like ? Was the temperature the same ? Was there a wind ? Did two or three thousand less people not use their dishwasher for that one hour ?
So then if they did their dishes an hour later where was the saving ? This whole thing is over hyped and over blown.
It reminds me of a fat person going on a diet for one hour and then pigs out immediately following. How does this make
sense ?

Fans with Microphones

There was an interesting discussion on the Drew Remenda Sports Show on Friday night on the role of sports broadcasters and especially reporting negative stories.
(ie The Eric Tillman thing or players getting in trouble etc)
I used to be a sports announcer in the 70's and 80's and it seems to me back then we, for lack of a better term, took a pass on the news stories and let the news department handle it. Now you hear the lead story on the news is Eric Tillman and his situation followed five minutes later by the sports and the lead story Eric Tillman and his situation. To me that is overkill.
As a former play by play announcer with the WheatKings and the Pats, it also appears to me that play by play announcers these days have become little more than sports fans with a microphone in their hand. I heard an announcer hold his "He Scores" for almost a minute to the point of nausea. That is nothing more than cheerleading.
I think announcers these days are too close to the team, to the players and have lost their ability to be objective. When I broke in, I was only a year or two older
than the players (at that time junior in Prince George) but I never had a desire to be the players buddies. They had their job to do. I had mine ! And objectivity was a large part in my mind. In fact if anything I was often accused of being too negative, too hard on the players. In 1975 I called the play by play for the Regina Pats and went through a 36 game winless streak. Thats half the season folks. Try to be positive about that. The Pats lost one night to Portland 15 - 1. Patty Ansell, in goal faced over 110 shots and was named the games first star.
Ah but I digress, I mean reminisce.
I also wonder what has happened to the game just selling itself. Nowadays you go to a Blades game and some huge dude painted blue interupts at every stoppage of play to
throw ice cream sandwiches or look for a monkey under a coffee cup or something else.
It used to be that just the game was enough but now the fans have to be entertained every minute, or at least someone pushing the buttons seems to think that.
I know things were always better back then but I do think announcers of today have lost their objectivity to a large degree and have become nothing more than an extension of the team they are working for. In other words a fan with a microphone in their hand.

The Man Who Sold Hot Dogs

Heard this story on John Gormley Live this morning. Have heard it before but you know what, I never tire of hearing it because it is so true.

MAN WHO SOLD HOT DOGS

THERE WAS A MAN WHO LIVED BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SOLD HOT DOGS.

HE WAS HARD OF HEARING SO HE HAD NO RADIO.

HE HAD TROUBLE WITH HIS EYES SO HE READ NO NEWSPAPERS.

BUT HE SOLD GOOD HOT DOGS.

HE PUT UP SIGNS ON THE HIGHWAY TELLING HOW GOOD THEY WERE.

HE STOOD ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CRIED; "BUY A HOT DOG, MISTER?

AND PEOPLE BOUGHT.

HE INCREASED HIS MEAT AND BUN ORDERS.

HE BOUGHT A BIGGER STOVE TO TAKE CARE OF HIS TRADE.

HE FINALLY GOT HIS SON HOME FROM COLLEGE TO HELP HIM OUT.

BUT THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED.

HIS SON SAID, "FATHER, HAVEN'T YOU BEEN LISTENING TO THE RADIO?

HAVEN'T YOU BEEN READING THE NEWSPAPERS?

THERE'S A BIG DEPRESSION.

THE EUROPEAN SITUATION IS TERRIBLE.

THE DOMESTIC SITUATION IS WORSE."

WHERE UPON THE FATHER THOUGHT, "WELL, MY SON'S BEEN TO COLLEGE, HE READS THE PAPERS AND HE LISTENS TO THE RADIO, AND HE OUGHT TO KNOW."

SO THE FATHER CUT DOWN ON HIS MEAT AND BUN ORDERS, TOOK DOWN HIS ADVERTISING SIGNS, AND NO LONGER BOTHERED TO STAND OUT ON THE HIGHWAY TO SELL HIS HOT DOGS.

AND HIS HOT DOG SALES FELL ALMOST OVERNIGHT.

"YOU'RE RIGHT, SON" THE FATHER SAID TO THE BOY.

"WE CERTINAILY ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A GREAT DEPRESSION."

The Highway From Hell

Imagine this highway covered in snow drifts, ice and pot holes and you got it today

Today I drove the Highway from Hell as it is affectionately known. Actually when I arrived in St. Brieux and talked to some of the local residents, they gave me some additional names for this highway, but if I post them then I am sure someone will flag this site for inappropriate content.
I turned on to Highway 368 near Muenster and proceeded North to St. Brieux. My first thought was, this is a highway. I have seen better cattle trails in Alberta.
The trail (Highway 368) was completely snow covered. You could hardly see the ditches on either side and even my GPS was telling me that I was driving in a field.
When I passed through Lake Lenore and came out the other side, a corner near the railway tracks was completely covered in a huge snow drift. A little red car had been unmercifully tossed into the ditch and to get through that drift, I had to completely floor the gas pedal of my truck, dodge the obstacle of the little red car
and come out the other side. Where are the snow ploughs in Saskatchewan ?
In three days on the road, I have seen a total of one snow plough.
Well I finally made it to St Brieux. Incidentally the picture I have posted was one I was directed to by a local resident. Could you imagine this highway in summer after a rain. Or in spring ?
Its amazing that this kind of disrepair can be allowed to happen. After all St. Brieux is home to some pretty large industry. I sure hope no tourists or dignataries choose to travel up that road. Come to think of it, maybe Brad Wall and
his delegation could cancel their Toronto trip and go for a little drive in the
Saskatchewan countryside starting with Highway 368. Now thats not going to happen is it?

Please Pass The Condoms !

So the incidence of HIV is up 40% despite the fact that Saskatchewan leads the nation in passing out free needles for the exchange program and condoms for the needy as well.
I can hardly wait to hear the social spin on this one. And how will the Brad Wall government respond ? We know how the NDP would respond. Please pass the condoms and up the needle exchange from four million needles to five or six million.
We don't want to think that to deny junkies their fix might lead to their betterment. Perhaps treatment facilities. Maybe a return to values and morals. As for the condoms, do you think abstinence till marriage and then a monogamous relationship might
fix the problem ? I know, I know - these are radical and outrageous solutions to a problem that despite the socialist sell job is only getting worse not better. Please pass the condoms !

Highways and Other Thoughts for the Day

Headed out to the North East territory today and ran into terrible roads and icy conditions for the second straight day.
Makes me wonder - did the Department of Highways put away all the snow ploughs for the summer or did the NDP sell them in a firesale before they were punted from office. Whatever the case they were no where to be found as I slowly, and I mean slowly negotiated icy snow covered highways. Took a picture of one of the highways and yes folks that is a highway, Saskatchewan style.

Government Plans to Entice Students with $20,000
I'm not against this idea. But what about our own Saskatchewan students who chose to stay and go to university or college in Saskatchewan. Shouldn't they be entitled to the same $20,000 if they agree to stay for seven years upon graduation.
Won't this be interesting if other provinces take it up. Then we can all compete for each others young people.
You would think if there were no jobs in Ontario, the possibility of obtaining a job in Saskatchewan would be enough incentive without the big bucks. And what about the trades people. Does this province not need carpenters, mechanics and other workers?
Lets not make it an elitist program but open it up to everyone including our own.

HIV is up 40% in Saskatchewan.
Does this mean the governments free needle exchange program and the long standing free condom program isn't working?
I can hardly wait for the social spin on this one followed by the government spin. I believe we already distribute four times as many needles as any other province. Where are they all going ? Watch that number go up significantly.

Gas Prices Go Up 6 cents per liter
Its not even a long weekend. How did they know I was thinking of going away this weekend. I am going to have to get my phone lines checked. Seriously, is anyone surprised when these hosers up their prices. Old news !

Redeye Gutfeld Special
Do you think we as Canadians are just a little over sensitive on this one ? The comments were boorish, insensitive and ill timed, but really, a comedy club in Edmonton cancels a gig for one of them because of threats of bodily harm.
The other thing that bothers me is we have given these clowns more publicity than they will ever get in a lifetime.
I'm not really feeling sorry for them but I don't think even they would have expected the way this thing has snowballed.
Have to admit I like Charles Adler's new name for them - The RedEye Yellowbelly program. How true - as these guys soft
bellies hang over their belts, they make fun of our military guys who are out there dodging bombs and bullets.
But now we need to get over it.

CBC - The Pot Calls The Kettle Black

Another round last night of the CBC expressing their indignation at the Fox news Redeye insensitive remarks about the Canadian military. Agreed the remarks were stupid and show a complete ignorance of Canada, but really is Gutfeld and crew guilty of anything more than bad timing and poor journalism ? Had four Canadian soldiers not been killed, would the CBC, who really do not support Canada's military presence, be quite so indignant ?
And what about our own Rick Mercer and his shots at Americans through his Ask an American segment. Who hasn't seen Mercer's smug smirk as he dupes another American with his tales of the Saskatchewan navy and Canadians emerging from their igloos to ride on the backs of polar bears.
And what about Don Cherry and his shots at European hockey players or French Canadians who wear visors ? Should the Prime Minister of Sweden demand an apology ?
Too much attention has been paid to the Red Eye knuckleheads. Peter MacKay and the rest of us offended Canadians have given them far more publicity than they deserve. And as for the CBC, I think the pot may be calling the kettle black.

The line between cool and fool

Its unfortunate that Peter MacKay chose to call for an apology from this clown Greg Gutfeld and his disparaging remarks about the Canadian military on his Fox News Red Eye show.

First of all his remarks are disgusting and disrepectful and come at the expense of the very men and their predecessors in other wars, that died to give these knuckleheads the right to their opinions. That alone is ironic isn't it.

Secondly, too much attention has been given to Gutfeld and his questionable panel.

Remember these people are airing their show at 3am. In television lingo thats about as far from prime time as it gets. A time slot generally reserved for beginning announcers who can make mistakes without too many people listening. A perfect slot for Gutfeld.

At the same time as you have the Gutfeld garbage, you have to wonder about the President of the United States who seems to be trying to become sort of popular personality rather than a leader of state.

Recently on the Jay Leno show the President made a remark about the Special Olympics that apparently only he was amused by and then on 60 minutes his laughter about serious economic matters prompted the host to ask him - " You're laughing about serious matters, are you punch drunk ? Sometimes in an effort to be cool you cross the line and become the fool. And by the way, the best censorship is built right into every television set. Its called the on/off button.

Love Means You Never Have To Say You're Sorry - Yeah Right

Not sure who ever came up with that questionable bit of advice. I know, back in my disc jockey days, there was a group,
Sounds of Sunshine I think, that released it as a song in the 1970's. And I think it was a line from the movie Love Story with
Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal.
But a couple of incidents this week and recently got me thinking about how hard it is for companies and corporations to say
I am sorry. The newspaper I work with is delivered by a large mail corporation, come on folks, there's only one.
This week there were some errors on our mailing slips. Its a long story but several hours of phone calls to Toronto and Winnipeg produced no results. In fact less than that as they insisted they were right and we must be doing something wrong. (we've only been doing this for thirty years) Finally I drove to the local postal place. In about a half hour the nice lady there found the
problem (their end, not ours) and got in fixed. Now I don't expect anyone to bow down to me and call me exalted but a nice
we're sorry would have been ok.
Had a another experience with a pharmacy after Christmas. In this province, prescriptions have to be renewed every year.
Mine apparently got lost so come near the end of January, I couldn't get my prescription refilled. The pharmacist insisted I must
not have brought it in. But I know I did. Even knew the date but alas to no avail, they couldn't find it. The pharmacist continued to insist that the mistake could not have been theirs even at one point telling me she had been there twenty one months and they had never made a mistake. Wow ! I told her I wish my business could say that. We make mistakes, I even have make goods that prove it. But you know what, we admit it, and for the customers sake, fix it via a make good ad or something.
So maybe its not love, but really is saying sorry all that difficult

Coveted Award this week goes to those who, no matter how hard they tried, can't find fault with the budget

This weeks award goes to those naysayers of the provincial budget. Your silence is deafening

We've know for a long time socialism didn't work as we watched Saskatchewan lag behind the other provinces.
Now its gone and Saskatchewan is forging ahead. Is it a coincidence? One would think not. Based on the Saskatchewan governments new budget, which by the way more than adequately address the social needs of the province, one would hope socialism is gone forever.
The province can move ahead with job creation, 11, 500 new jobs for 2009, great news for the province. Perhaps a developing of under utilized natural resources and dare I say it, privatization of many of the areas where government had no business being in the first place. Why does the government through Sask Tel run a farm newspaper, why is the government, again Sask Tel, into the home security business? Why must the government control the liquor stores? These things are going to take time to change but hopefully change is on the way.

Barock and Brad - A Love Story

There is almost a tear in my eye. In the background, the theme from Love Story plays softly. No, no its not about two gay guys.
The CBC would be all over that. Its Barock and Brad - A Love Story.
Barock - the Amercan President who has risen to rock star status including an appearance on the Jay Leno Show and has further endeared himself to the American public by taking on the evil empire AIG.
Brad - the Saskatchewan Premier - who produced a budget that even his severest critics could not criticize, who callers to the
John Gormley show insisted on elevating to the Prime Ministers chair and who's regular evening calls to the Drew Remenda Sports Show make him appear, well just like us, a regular guy.
In an era when politicians have been generally loathed and mistrusted, this can't be a bad thing can it ?

Could This Be The End of Socialism in Saskatchewan ?

Brad Wall has brought out the Saskatchewan Parties budget for the next year. And so far it has come out to rave reviews.
Even the NDP are having a hard time coming up with something negative. Their finance critic mumbled a bit, hummed and hawed but really what is there to criticize.
The largest reduction in property taxes in history, money for social programs, and even funding for a new children's hospital.
And at a time when we are hearing about job losses all over the country, the Saskatchewan government forecasts that this
province will see 11,500 new jobs in the next year.
No wonder the Socialists are so quiet. But they better not be to quiet or at election time may be no one will remember that they are around. Now that would be a good thing !

Gang members all to be housed in one center

Oh good, Corrections Minister Darryl Hickie has come up with another great idea. Take gang members who have committed a crime and put them all in one jail. The jail, yet to be built, would be somewhere in Western Canada and possibly could be
Saskatoon, where the government has approved the building of an 87 million dollar remand center.
Now can't you just see all the cities in Western Canada lining up for this one. Just what any Canadian city would need.
All the dangerous gang criminals brought to one city where they can plan, organize and work on being better criminals.
And then maybe when they are released, they will make that lucky city their permanent home. What a great idea Minister Hickie.
And you might as well make it Saskatoon. MacLeans Magazine has already named Saskatoon as Canada's most dangerous city.
The news website RealClearWorld names Saskatoon as the ninth most dangerous city in the world. We have such heady company as Mogadishu, Somalia at number one, Detroit at number five, and Johannesburg, South Africa at number seven.
And there sits little old Saskatoon as the number nine most dangerous city in the world. What a honor. Has anyone told Tourism Saskatoon ? They may want to include this in their advertising.
So go ahead Mr. Hickie. Bring a few hundred or more dangerous gang members to Saskatoon or any other city for that matter.
Maybe Saskatoon can move up the standings and be the most dangerous city in Canada plus the most dangerous city in the world.

Isn't this just typical

You would think it was the CBC and Hockey Night in Canada but no it wasn't.
In typical everyone loves the Toronto Maple Leafs and the East must be served first,
TSN's televised game tonight was the Leafs playing the Tampa Bay Lightning.
At the same time Martin Brodeur is going after the record of all time wins set by Patrick Roy. And he got it as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Chicago Black Hawks 3 -2 for win number 552 for Brodeur.
Meanwhile Curtis Joseph of the Leafs is fast heading toward the all time loss mark for goaltenders set by Gump Worsley many years ago.
And which game is televised - why ofcourse its the Toronto Maple Leafs because as every easterner will tell you, the entire world wants to follow the Toronto Maple Leafs. Fortunately for Joseph the Lightning are even worse than the Leafs and the Maple Buds prevailed 4 - 3.
Can hardly wait till CFL season when we will get a steady diet of the Toronto Argonauts. After all thats Canada's other team isn't it ?

No More CBC - Oh Canada

So the CBC needs something like 125 million dollars or they could be gone. And like every one else in trouble, they want the
government to kick in or they kick out. Well first of all the government is you and me, the Canadian taxpayer, the very people that the CBC has so little regard for. Instead the CBC caters to the wants and wishes of the left, you know the protest groups,
the anti establishment, the anti corporations and all the rest.
Would we really miss the CBC ? People continually point to Hockey Night in Canada as a reason to continue funding the
government broadcaster. Why ? How long do you think it would take TSN to pick up Hockey Night in Canada. Probably as quick as it took CTV to grab off the HNIC theme song. Would we miss paying Don Cherry a million dollars a year for his antics and
comments ? I hear Ron McLean gets about half of that. No wonder this outfit is in trouble. A million and a half for a little five
minute act.
Then there are earth shattering episodes like Market Place where the CBC outlines such evils as garages charging to much for auto repairs and of the CBC's greatest pride - Little Mosque on the Prairies. How could we as Canadians live without that.
There there is the National news - where the CBC, or El Jezera North - promotes the Taliban, attacks Israel and questions anything and everything about morals and values.
The fall of the CBC will likely become a great loss for Jack Layton and other left wing leaners but hey you know what.
Its all about advertising revenue right. And if those who advertise really want the CBC let them come to plate and bail out
Mother Corp. If their not willing to, then let them go. I'm sure someone else will pick up the slack. Some-one asked me once whats the difference between a private broadcaster and a public broadcaster (ie CBC) Well in a private broadcast station
commentators can give there opinion and are paid by the private sector through advertising revenue. If any advertiser doesn't like what he is hearing, he can take his business and his money somewhere else. In the the public broadcast (CBC) the
commentators opinions, thoughts, stories and of course their biases are all paid for by the government and ofcourse by you and me, the taxpayer. I don't think the government needs to be in that business.

Top Ten Reasons Why Its Great To Be A Dog

10) Who needs expensive toys. An old shoe or if you are like Diego somebody's sock will do just fine. It can even come out of the laundry basket
9) You spend hours just smelling stuff
8) No one expects you to buy lunch or dinner. You don't have to worry about table manners and if you put on a lot of weight, well it really is someone else's fault
7) Every garbage can looks like a cold buffet to you
6) It doesn't take much to make you happy. You are always excited to see the same old people. All they have to do is leave the room for five minutes and then come back

5) If it itches, you can reach it. And no matter where it itches, no one will be offended if you scratch it in public
4) No one notices if you have hair growing in weird places as you get older.
3) Personal Hygiene is a blast. No-one expects you to take a bath everyday and someone combs your hair for you
2) Having a wet runny nose is considered healthy
1) No one thinks less of you for passing gas. Some people even think its cute

Diego puts on his warm red coat and loves his walk down the Meewasin Trail

St Patricks Day

Ah St. Patricks day is almost here. I'm not Irish you see and can't say that I feel I'm missing out on anything but I am always glad when March 17th comes and goes.
Now maybe I'm just getting old and cranky but I listen to a lot of radio as I make my sales calls and it seems to me that this is the time when every radio announcer doing commercials does these nauseating impressions of some Irish guy or a leprechaun or something. It seems overdone and tiring. Well maybe I am just old and cranky.
But to all the Irish out there - Have a Happy St Patricks Day

Can Saskatchewan Add Dr. Phil

Some thoughts on the 2009 Brier. Now I don't profess to be an expert on curling. Many years ago in my life as a sports broadcaster I did rock by rock coverage for both CKPG in Prince George and CKX in Brandon. But as I watch the Brier, it seems to me that the winning provinces send the same teams year after year while with Saskatchewan its always someone new.
Alberta sends Kevin Marten, Newfoundland has Brad Gushue, Manitoba a Stoughton, Ontario has a Howard and New Brunswick even found another Howard. How does Saskatchewan do this ? Is there a Saturday night meeting where they draw straws and the loser gets to go to the Brier. I heard one commentator say Saskatchewan is the toughest province to get out of and there is a mental letdown after you get to the Brier. Excuse me, but thats rubbish. If you get to the big show and you aren't ready thats your fault. If you aren't ready you could lose to Kevin Marten 11 - 3. Oh Saskatchewan did. Well there you go. Next year maybe Saskatchewan's fifth should be Dr. Phil

Corrections Minister gets Coveted Award

No question about it. This weeks Jackass award has to go to the Saskatchewan Minister in charge of Corrections.
Six inmates escape. They spend four months tunnelling out basically in front of guards and staff who couldn't seem to care less. A report blames management.
The Corrections Minister says no-ones to blame. No-one loses their jobs.
Lets all just join hands and sing Kumbia and maybe even build a new jail in Saskatoon. That will solve all the problems. Congratulations Darryl Hickie

The Great Escape - Regina Style

Really folks, you could make a movie about this as long as you had the Keystone Cops or Charlie Chaplin in the leading role.
Inmates escape from the Regina Correctional Centre right under the noses of their guards. For months, these prisoners worked on digging a hole to escape while no less than 87 guards at various times were on duty. And yet not one of these guards noticed or reported what was happening.
A report yesterday says there is plenty of blame to go around but doesn't really blame anyone. There is a half hearted explanation about over crowding, understaffing, the usual excuses and then something about no management being on duty and when theres no management people around to supervise, then staff won't do their jobs.
Really ? Even when it extends to guards preventing dangerous offenders from escaping. You must be kidding.
Heads need to roll on this one not the usual shove it under the rug but will they ? Don't hold your breath !

The Great Bottled Water Debate

These days there seems to be a group for everything. Now a group has formed to fight to ban bottled water. Why ? Sure we are probably being taken in if we believe that it is pure spring water just fresh from the Rocky Mountains or some other pure place. But can't I make up my own my mind if I want to buy it or not.
Do I really need a group or another government body to tell me that I can't buy or worse that I'm not intelligent enough to make my own decision so the government is going to make it for me.
I don't buy a lot of bottled water but sometimes after being out in the heat or playing baseball or something, I like to stop at a convenience store and pick up a bottle of water. I'm not really taking into account the health benefits. I'm just thirsty and want a nice cold bottle of water. Would these groups prefer I buy a carbonated soft drink. Come on people, theres an economic crisis going on, people are losing their jobs. These protecters of the public need to find something else to do.

So you think you have a tough job

Why I am sick of winter

Even Frosty the snowman is discouraged. Why I hate winter
10) The car finally warms up two minutes from the office
9) Pumping gas in this weather
8) Dry skin
7) Nose runs when its cold
6) Hard to do anything with gloves on
5) Driving on ice and into snow storms
4) Going to an event and coming out to a cold car
3) Flu and cold season
2) Can't go outside without putting on lots of clothes.
1) People who say they love winter and snowstorms

Creamsicles in Saskatchewan

Thats it. It is official. Today, March 11, 2009 is the coldest day in Saskatchewan in the 125 year history of weather record keeping. I would raise my arms in celebration but they are frozen to my side. We are making creamsicles in
Saskatchewan

In Denial

Watched on the National news last night, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff's comments on Stephen Harper's positive speech. Both the Liberal Leader and of course the NDP leader Jack Layton had critism of Harper's positive attitude.
Well it could be theres a little denial going on but give me that rather than the usual "the sky is falling" from the other parties.
Matter of fact its interesting how positive or negative comments can affect the stock market. A couple of Mondays ago, an American business leader (banking I believe) spoke on how the American recession might not be as bad as originally forecast. The result - the markets surged upwards. The next day, another business leader commented, saying the first man had erred etc. The result - the markets spiralled downwards wiping out the gains of the day before. So Mr Ignatieff, lets try a little positive attitude. Can it really hurt

Nabisco Shredded Wheat

A cold cold morning and this truck, to my questionable little mind, looks like its hauling Nabisco Shredded Wheat. Remember those round things that you put into your cereal bowl. The ones on this truck even have sugar on top, if you really use your imagination

Saskatchewan at the Brier

Oh its not good folks

OakRidge Boys

Went out to see the Oakridge Boys in concert last night. What an awesome group.
Not only great musicians but fabulous entertainers as well. Their bass singer, Richard is incredible.
Its been quite a week in Saskatoon. The Oakridge Boys are here, The Eagles are doing three sold out concerts this week. The musical Chicago opens in a couple of days and we just finished TeleMiracle raising 3.8 million dollars to help people who are in need. What a great province !
Speaking of the Oakridge Boys though, can someone tell me why some people in attendance have to sing along with each and every song. Sat in front of a couple last night that did that. A bit annoying, like I paid my money to hear the Oakridge Boys. Especially annoying, I guess this guy fancied himself a bass singer as he had to join Richard every time he did bass. You're not buddy. Stick to singing in the shower. You can even take your wife in there with you.

New Award Announced

In an effort to make this site better, the executive board decided that a new award should be instituted. This award is for politicians, judges, lawyers and others who deserve this prestigious honor.
It will be called the Jackass Award and will be named following the infamous words of Pat Atkinson who referred to one of her colleagues as a "Jackass".
With that in mind, we felt it was only fitting to announce the first ever winner of this award is Pat Atkinson

Little voices never to be heard

I've heard enough about Christopher Pauchay. The justice system with its prosecutors, defence lawyers, judges and social workers existing in some sort of bubble oblvious to the rest of society, have done enough for him.
He got three years - he'll be out in two thirds of his sentence which is two years and probably with a bunch of goodies thrown in could be out in as little as six months.
What about the victims ? These little girls had their lives snuffed out. Who speaks for them ? Where are the child rights advocates ? Where are the women's advocates? Are they not outraged by this ? Their silence is deafening.
Similiar case with the young man, Tim Mclean, killed near Portage La Praire.
Who will speak for him ? Its all about the perpetrators in this screwed up society.
Will no-one ever step up and speak for the victims ?
The justice system has their head in the sand

Managing the Risks

The other day while sitting on the, well never mind where I was sitting, I picked up a copy of Good Housekeeping magazine.
Never one to read the magazine, an article did catch my eye on managing your health risks and minimizing heart attacks.
1) Measure your middle - a waist measurement of over 35 inches doubles your chance of a heart attack - oh oh - can I move from a 36 pant to a 34 waist - thats gotta hurt.
2) Know your family's health history - that makes sense
3) Give up cigarettes - no problem there - I hate those things
4) Transform breakfast - make it the most nourishing meal of the day
5) Go for an oil change - now this caught my eye - banish transfats go for good fats like canola oil or olive oil - no more butter on my pancakes - what no more pancakes !
6) Nibble a few nuts - thats good - I love the trail mix from Costco
(Do I have to pick out the chocolate M & M's)
7) Increase fruits and vegetables - think I've been told that a time or two
8) Once a week - try fish - I love fish - don't know why I don't have more
9) Get moving
10 Gradually increase the pace
Sounds pretty good to me

Saskatoon mayor is a great spin doctor

MacLeans Magazine has voted Saskatoon as the country's most dangerous city. Now to those of us who live here that is not a great surprise. Open the newspaper everyday or go on to saskatoon home page and the first thing you see is one or two stabblings, a couple of robberies with violence and throw in the occasional home invasion and you pretty much have a typical day in Saskatoon. Yet the mayor says MacLeans is wrong. He says they used statistics from two years ago. Well who cares about that. We as citizens haven't noticed any decrease in crime in the last two years. Then the ultimate spin, the mayor says MacLeans has misrepresented the facts. Says the mayor because we are doing such a good job (I assume he's talking about catching the bad guys) it gets reported in a negative fashion. Come on Mr Mayor, do you really buy that. When I open my paper, listen to
the news or go to the above mentioned internet site and see or hear no crime reported or even a slight decrease, then I will believe you are doing a great job. Till then I kind of lean towards MacLeans.

More on Saskatchewan Leading the Nation

The newspapers yesterday declared Saskatchewan will lead the country in terms of economic growth this year. Yesterday CNN hopped on the discovery train with a feature on Saskatchewan - North America's Job Hot Spot. That feature was viewed by over one million people who now know what we knew all along. Saskatchewan is a great place to live - shhh though - not too loudly or everyone is going to start coming here and you know what happens then. Wave the flag proudly people

Saskatchewan Leads the Nation

Isn't it nice to look at the front page of the newspaper and see that Saskatchewan is leading the nation in terms of economic growth. Now I realize there are problems and negatives elsewhere in the country so maybe leading the nation at this point in time isn't saying all that much. But I am so sick of turning on the news and hearing nothing but gloom and doom so a positive story is nice once and awhile.
Speaking of positive, one of my customers in the advertising business, Moody's Equipment is doing some good things too.
They have recently expanded with the addition of three New Holland dealerships in Olds, High River and Calgary.
The plans even include some land purchase and building of facilities for the Calgary dealership.
Congratulations to them.

A coincidence

Is it a coincidence that their are no real trades in the NHL to announce until almost the deadline of Wednesday, March 4th. Does this have anything to do with the fact that two major television sports networks are televising the entire trade deadline day. Have the GM's been told by television, don't make any trades until Wednesday when we broadcast. If so kind of sad that this league, which ranks behind
darts and bowling in television popularity would prositute itself in that manner.
Ofcourse maybe there won't be any trades but we will know by the end of the day won't we.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Does anyone outside of Toronto really care who the Toronto Maple Leafs trade or keep at the trading deadline.
Listen to TSN, CBC or that other channel and all you hear is will the Leafs trade this guy or that guy.
Who really cares ? If they had anyone on their roster worth trading for, they wouldn't be sitting at the bottom of the pile.
And further more, I am more interested in what moves 29 other teams will make, not just the Toronto Maple Leafs

A big hole

This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Grand Canyon as a National Park in the United States. Many believe that the
Grand Canyon is the largest hole in North America. But it actually is not. The largest hole in North America is the one that
has been dug by US bankers and financial analysts and executives of large corporations who demand more and more even
when their companies are losing money.

Ok I'm a political junkie. Provincial, federal, world - I follow it all. Also enjoy talk radio

Kind of said most of it above. I do love to travel though. Would love to visit every major city out there. Enjoy learning the culture of other countries. I'm a people watcher and a people person. Some say I love to talk and I guess that would be accurate
