They say if something appears to good to be true then it usually is. I guess that would be the case in this weeks nuclear debate in Saskatchewan.
In what some are calling historic, the NDP joined with the Sask Party and voted in favour of exploring the possibility of developing the province's nuclear power capacity. Note the possibility of exploring is the key. Haven't we been doing this for years? This issue has been kicked around and kicked around. Whats there to explore? Five years from now, ten years from now, twenty years from now the same political opponents will have their same opposition.
Pat Atkinson finally showed the NDP's true colors when late Friday she accused the government of rushing ahead on the issue and said more time is needed.
More time for what? To debate this over and over again? The time to move ahead is now. The time to grow Saskatchewan is now.
A caller on John Gormley Live kind of summed up the rationale of the anti nukes.
She stated that nuclear generating sites leak something that makes people sick.
What do they leak she was asked? I don't know but it makes people sick she said.
How do you know that? she was asked. Someone told me was the reply.
That kind of reasoning is predominant in the anti nuke movement. For goodness sake, if you're opposed to something or for something at least know the reason why.
And look on the bright side - If we develop our nuclear capacity here, then maybe people will say about Saskatchewan people - they really light up a room !
