For ever so brief, a fleeting moment there was hope. An eastern division first place record, the tie for most wins on the road with 28, and an 8th place finisher as your opponent in the first round of the playoffs. Could this be the year that the Saskatoon Blades would shake off the mediocrity and capture a WHL championship or even a Memorial Cup? Would they at least advance as far as running into the
powerful Calgary Hitmen and produce an exciting series?
Alas, it was not to be. With over 10,000 fans watching at Credit Union Center the Lethbridge Hurricanes imploded the dream with a 4 - 3 win over the Blades.
You know the problem with a large crowd. Sure its great for the Blades and I'm sure they appreciated the noise but the opposing team feeds off of that as well and on this night unfortunately the Hurricanes were one goal better to take the seven game series.
Great season for the Blades. Unfortunately for the fans, its wait until next year all over again.
