So the Toronto media has discovered Premier Brad Wall and think that he could be
"The Next One" as in Prime Minister Wall.
Strangely enough no Premier has ever ascended to the Prime Ministers coveted throne.
Odd when you think about it when you consider some of the great Premiers this country has had and no, I am not including King Ralph in that number.
Opportunity plays a great role in politics. Ralph Klein premiered Alberta when growth for that province was at its peak. Big shoes to fill as Ed Stelmach is finding out. Brad Wall has been great for this province, but he too has stepped in at an opportune time. He has shown good leadership but Prime Minister ?
Probably not and it might not even been good for him. For one thing the French language obstacle would be difficult and two Saint Wall just might be to nice a guy for the dirty world of federal politics.
Friends who own an implement dealership told me they were in a restaurant when the Premier came in and stopped by their table to talk about agriculture and other issues facing them. Would a Prime Minister do that? Well maybe this one would!
Saskatchewan has to hope that the Premier has no federal aspirations. Another eight to twelve years of Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan Party could only be a positive thing. I mean we had sixteen years of Socialism with little or no forward progress and you have to think with a Government thats willing to open Saskatchewan for business we are going to grow. Premier Wall seems to be able to recognize the wily traps the opposition prepare for him and not fall into them. Remember Hermanson and the Sell the Crowns fiasco.
The question is though will Saskatchewan give Wall the opportunity? Our history seems to be two terms or eight years of Progressive government and then back to four terms of Socialism. If that trend continues who knows it just might be Saint Wall
in the Prime Ministers office. That would be the country's gain and our province's loss.
