Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff and Finance Critic John McCallum issued a stern warning today to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Lower the deficit or else
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff called on Prime Minister Stephen Harper Wednesday to fire the finance minister, a day after Flaherty said the federal government deficit this year would to $50 billion, up significantly from $33.7 billion he forecast in the January federal budget. Ignatieff, whose party is pushing for even more spending which would result in a bigger deficit by, among other things, making it easier for more Canadians to qualify for employment insurance, said that Flaherty’s credibility was the issue and it was for that reason that he should resign.
