What a guy that Gary Bettman. My hat is off to him. Not only has he beaten back Jim Basillie, kept the Coyotes in Phoenix but he may have saved the pathetic Toronto Maple Leafs as well.

Lawyer for team owner claims NHL boss would rather see Coyotes in Manitoba, not Hamilton
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman would rather the Phoenix Coyotes move back to Winnipeg, preferring Hamilton to get an expansion team, according to the latest documents filed in bankruptcy court.
Well of course he would. Could you imagine if the Phoenix Coyotes moved to Hamilton and actually made the playoffs while the Toronto Maple Leafs continue to miss year after year. Oh what an embarassment that would be for Bettman and the center of the universe. Bettman's hopes will of course be - stick an expansion team in Hamilton.
Fill em up with AHL, CHL and other minor leage players and hopefully they will languish in futilty forever. Preferably behind the Maple Laughs who own the record for languishing in futility.
The saw off in all of that. Winnipeg. Lets give those poor old Manitobans the Jets and hopefully that will save the Leafs. Only if we have to though.
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said moving the team to Winnipeg was considered only if there were no other options. Isn't that a ringing endorsement for Winnipeg.
We'll go there only if there is no where else to go.
"In the event there turned out to be no options in Phoenix - and only in that event - we thought it was worth exploring what might be available in Winnipeg," Daly said in an email in reaction to the latest documents.
You sometimes have to wonder why fans are stupid enough to support this league year after year.
Too bad the founders of the World Hockey Association weren't around to give it another go.
