It could be a long season for the broadcast team of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. As the Riders were being pummelled
45 - 12 by the Edmonton Eskimos the broadcasters offered up the following explanations.
1) Its only preseason
2) Edmonton has played all their starters the whole game. Funny though I didn't hear Ricky Ray's named called out at all.
3) How many points do the Eskimos get for this?
And the best one of all
4) The second exhibition game is the one the Riders want to win. Like they didn't want to win this one.
Now ofcourse this was ONLY an exhibition game but the Riders defense was shredded like grated cheese and the no name quarterbacks were exactly that, no name. Meanwhile
Rookie Eskimos quarterback Jared Zabransky completed 10-of-14 passes for 109 yards and one touchdown.
The man expected to lead the Riders Darian Durant 7 for 12 for a whopping 68 yards.
Most of Durant's completions were short swing passes and dump offs. He overthrew and underthrew receivers many of the longer routes.
He killed a first-quarter drive in Eskimos territory by telegraphing a 20-yard sideline pass that defender Bobby Keyes picked off easily by stepping in front of receiver Chris Jones.
And Neil Lumsden, one of many Eskimo improvements, had little trouble running over the Rider defense/
Stand by for more excuses.
