I have always hated that reference, The Banjo Bowl, the name given to the rematch game between the Saskatchewan RoughRiders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers following the Labor Day Classic. I know, I know, I am well aware of where the origin of the name came from, that we in Saskatchewan are all supposed to show what good sports we are after Bomber kicker Troy Westwood called peope from Regina "a bunch of banjo pickin inbreds". In some ways by going along with this little joke we show everyone that maybe we are just that. Remember this province no longer has Lorne Calvert and the small minded NDP leading the province. We've become bigger than that and maybe its time to put this "Banjo Bowl" thing to rest. Seems to me Saskatchewan has been on the receiving end of a lot of Blue Bomber comments. Head Coach Mike Kelly earlier this year called Saskatchewan "the crotch of Canada". So the next game the Bombers and the Riders play, perhaps that should be the Crotch Bowl. Please no and spare me the Banjo Bowl crap as well.
Meanwhile about the game this weekend. Andy Fantuz apparently will play. Jason Clermont is out and apparently won't even dress. Clermont must be having some second thoughts about signing with the Riders. Kitwana Jones is back but apparently won't play either.
Hard ass Mike Kelly is having problems of his own. Barren Simpson is the latest to jump ship apparently having had enough of the head coach. Wonder when Mike will get it figured out. The days of playing tough guy to pampered athletes is over.
Too many problems with the athletes and the coach walks the plank.
So heres my predictions for the weekend.
Riders will prevail over the Bombers
Calgary will beat Edmonton again
Montreal will top the Lions and avenge last weeks stolen away game and
Hamilton will beat Toronto.
