Where's the help? A lot of people are telling me they're not seeing it," Layton told reporters outside the Farmers' Market on Avenue B in Saskatoon.
Like a shining white knight,Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton has emerged, well from wherever he has been, to insist that Prairie farmers need help in light of drought conditions they are facing.
Well he may be right, but you have to wonder about motives there.
The NDP federally have zero seats in Saskatchewan, haven't had any for a long time and on the Hill in Ottawa, Jack himself has been reduced to spectator status since the Michael Ignatieff - Stephen Harper deal. Harper himself referred to the NDP as being irrelevant and since then we haven't heard much from the NDP or its leader.
But now Jack's back - Where's the help? A lot of people are telling me they're not seeing it," "We're now hearing from the farmers themselves that they're facing a disastrous situation. And the urgency of the situation doesn't seem to be appreciated by the Harper Conservatives."
Mr. Layton says farmers need a second stimulus package but then goes on to say that people haven't seen the first one the Conservatives promised.
Makes you wonder what good a second stimulus package would do but maybe Jack hasn't thought about that.
Or maybe Jack agrees with the Prime Minister. Out east the NDP is irrelevant so its time to come to Saskatchewan, as any good NDPer will remind you frequently,
"The Home of Medicare" and drum up some badly needed support and maybe even a vote or two.
