Block asks constituents to help fight Senate bill
Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar MP Kelly Block calls spanking a "traditional punishment" and is asking her constituents to help her fight a Senate bill that would see parents charged for it.
Block sent a mailout with the words "Are Parents Criminals?" to her constituents recently, asking them to mail back their answer to a question on whether they support spanking as a form of punishment.
Not much hope of this bill ever passing. Its been tried before and always shot down by the Liberals or the NDP.
Block asks constituents whether they agree with the bill, to which they're given two options: "No! Parents have a right to choose how to discipline their own kids," and "Yes! I agree with Michael Ignatieff's Liberal Senators -- All spanking should be illegal."
To me spanking should always be a last resort. I have always had trouble with the scenario where a parent takes a child and spanks them for hitting another child.
Isn't that kind of like sending a conflicting message? On the other hand I don't agree with the Liberal and Socialist views of "Hug A Thug". Proper training begins at home. So therefore I guess I kind of lead Kelly Blocks way on this one.
Parents should have the right to discipline their children in a loving fashion which may include spanking. If it gets out of control or abusive, then parents who do that should be charged.
